Book Buddies (Early Childhood)

P4K’s Book Buddy program is an early education program that focuses on reading-readiness. Pre-kindergarten and sue-book-buddykindergarten students are engaged in monthly classroom visits by their Book Buddy. Together they read an age-appropriate book and participate in a story-comprehension activity. Each student receives their own copy of each book they read throughout the year so that they can begin building their at-home library.

Programming is currently provided for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students at five P4K target elementary schools, which include:
Conestoga Elementary
Fontenelle Elementary
Kellom Elementary
King Elementary
Skinner Elementary

The 2016-17 reading list follows the Omaha Public Library Summer Reading Program theme of Building a Better World and includes the following story titles:

“A Box Can Be Many Things”, written by Dana Meachen-Rau

“Construction”, written by Sally Sutton

“Goodnight Digger”,  written by Michelle Robinson

“Construction Workers”, written by Cari Meister

“Demolition”, written by Sally Sutton

“Stanley the Builder”, written by Stanley Bee

“Look at That Building”, written by Scott Ritchie

*P4K programs are supported in part by a grant from United Way of the Midlands.
