Lupe Martinez is a woman on a mission, and that mission is helping others.

In addition to volunteering for many local Omaha organizations, Martinez has been a dedicated Partnership 4 Kids volunteer for 5 years.   For Martinez, volunteering has always been an important part who she is.

“When we were young, my mom taught us that if you can help someone out, then you should help them,” Martinez says, matter-of-factly.

Always utilizing her mother’s teachings as her inspiration, Martinez is constantly looking for ways to do more for those she serves. During a recent goal buddy classroom visit, one of her students informed Martinez that they did not read at home because their family didn’t have any books. “I was shocked,” Martinez says. “How could a child not have any books at home?” After a little more investigation, Martinez found out that this was common among most of the students in the school.

Martinez made it her mission to see that every student in the classrooms she serves could have a book of their own to take home. She organized a book drive and at the end of the drive collected 400 books, more than enough for each student in the entire school to take home their own book. “I was so happy and proud to be able to do that,” Martinez says. “Now it’s time to start a new mission,” she says with a laugh.
