with a career path.
A brand-new elementary school program model that increases impact and student-mentor time will be rolled out in the Fall by Partnership 4 Kids, in partnership with Omaha Public Schools.
The New Elementary Model
The Pre-K through 3rd grade portion is a read-aloud program, very similar to the current Book Buddy Literacy Program, with extension activities for the mentor, classroom, and home. Each classroom receives two Book Buddyvisits per month. This model provides a total of 14 books for each student throughout the program year, building a strong in-home library for students and families.
In Grades 4- 5/6th, each classroom also receives two visits per month. These Goal Buddy meetings are held in the classroom in a group mentoring model of four students to one adult. All meetings have an established curriculum which pertains to critical life and academic skills, attendance, career exploration, and future thinking regarding post-secondary. These grades will also have a college exploration visit (4th), career experience in conjunction with school, and a visit to a middle school (5th/6th). Reading and life skill goal setting is embedded throughout the program with an emphasis on school attendance as well.
The P4K Elementary Model is designed to work side by side with each school with a strong emphasis on reading, life skills, goal setting, attendance, and future thinking.
We appreciate our many volunteer mentors and appreciate their passion for our kids and our program. Volunteers are invited to attend one of our early June Town Hall meetings for a celebratory program introduction and Q&A session. Please contact us for the details. Recruitment@p4k.org
