Service Learning

It is important for youth to feel connected to their community and to take pride in it.  The intentions of P4K’s service learning curriculum are to:

  • help students understand the connection between curriculum and service
  • inspire students to become actively engaged in meaningful and personally relevant service activities
  • collaborate with other local organizations in a way that is mutually beneficial and addresses community needs

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only federal holiday that is also designated by Congress as a National Day of Service. Each year, our staff and students honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. by volunteering with local organizations. This effort is lead by the organization’s AmeriCorps Service Members.

This year, in collaboration with No More Empty Pots, some of our high school and postsecondary students created art mobiles celebrating black entrepreneurs, business owners, and leaders in honor of Black History Month 2023.
